Laser Treatment

Say Goodbye to Red Spots

Lasers used in dermatology are high energy light sources which when tuned to certain wavelengths are able to selectively remove skin lesions based on their color or ability to absorb light. Lasers are particularly effective for the treatment and removal of spider veins on the face. These vascular lesions are often the result of chronic sun exposure but are also seen in other conditions like Rosacea.

How is the procedure performed?

The procedure is performed in the office using a special Diode Pumped Solid State Laser that generates an intense beam of light selectively absorbed by surface blood vessels and other red spots. A small hand piece or “wand” is used to deliver the laser energy to the skin. Discomfort is generally minimal but in some cases, a topical anesthetic cream may be used. Afterwards, there will be some mild redness of the skin which usually goes away within a few days. This may be accompanied by slight swelling, which can be minimized with cool compresses. Final results are generally evident within 10-14 days. A small percentage of patients may need retreatment depending on the size and extent of the area requiring correction. Retreatment may be done in approximately 6-8 weeks.
